Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I have a campfire in my backyard?

A:
Yes, but please observe the following:
     a. Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 25 feet of a structure or combustible material unless
        contained in a barbecue pit.
     b. Recreational fires shall be 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height.
     c. Buckets, shovels, garden hoses or a fire extinguisher with a minimum 4-A rating shall be readily available for
        use at recreational fires.

Q: What is a BTU ?

A:
BTU stands for British Thermal Unit. It is the industry standard unit of measurement for heat quantity. 1 BTU is
the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of water at its maximum density by 1
     degree Fahrenheit:

Q:  How much space should I allow between an infrared or patio heater and the surrounding walls / ceiling ?

A:  Safe guide is:
      . 3 feet above
. 2 feet from the sides
      . 2 feet from behind
      . 6 feet in front

Q:  Is there any taste difference between charcoal and gas?

A:  There shouldn't be. The barbecue taste comes from food juices dripping on something hot, vaporizing and
coating the food. If you have a strong charcoal taste then it sounds like you are cooking on the charcoal too
soon. You need to let all the grey smoke burn off first. If you like this acidic taste though, carry on as you are.
If you want this taste on a gas barbecue throw on a couple of bits of charcoal on the lava rock!

Q:  My grills have gone all rusty. What can I do?

A:  Cast iron grills will. Either...
. Give them a good scrub with a wire brush and make sure you leave them with a coating of vegetable oil.
. Buy porcelain coated ones. They are smoother surfaced, so easier to keep clean and don't rust.

Q:  What are the health effects of smoke from backyard burning?

A:  Exposure to high concentrations of smoke can cause numerous health effects especially to those who are
vulnerable to air pollution such as children, the elderly and people with compromised respiratory systems. The
particles from smoke may be trapped in the lungs or respiratory tract for long periods of time, which could lead
to diseases of the lung including emphysema and cancer.
